Calgary, AB - This September The Weiss Gallery relaunches as CKG / Christine Klassen Gallery, as director Christine Klassen steps into the position of owning partner.
Klassen has a solid reputation for innovation and style. Her vision for CKG is to embrace a fresh, vibrant and approachable gallery space which endeavors to break the traditional commercial gallery mold. Known for her easygoing attitude and relaxed conversation Klassen looks forward to continuing relationships with existing gallery visitors and bringing a re-energized gallery space to those who are discovering Calgary’s gallery scene.
To this new role Klassen contributes 13 years of professional expertise. A dynamic member of Calgary’s arts community she is also the the coordinator of Calgary’s ArtWalk Festival Society, and sits on the board of the Exposure Calgary, Banff, Canmore Photography Festival. A proponent of culture in the city of Calgary Klassen often can be heard saying “we do not lack arts and culture in Calgary- we lack the recognition of our arts and culture in Calgary”
CKG will continue to represent the same group of highly talented artists whose craft intensive studio practices made The Weiss Gallery such a success over the last !ve years. CKG additionally looks forward to new opportunities for collaboration and auxiliary projects. The gallery will continue to represent the work Calgary favorite, artist Barry Weiss, former owning partner and gallery namesake. Weiss is stepping down to devote more time to his studio practice.
CKG’s inaugural exhibition takes place on September 13, 2012 as San Francisco painter Aondrea Maynard kicks off strong fall lineup for the gallery and sets the backdrop for The Christine Klassen Gallery grand opening celebration. Members of the press and public are invited to celebrate the inaugural show opening of CKG on September 13, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
