Jurors:
Diana Thorneycroft is a Winnipeg artist who has shown various bodies of work across Canada, the United States and Europe, as well as in Moscow, Tokyo and Sydney. Although best known for her staged tableaux photography, she does sculptural installation and has had numerous exhibitions of her drawings. Thorneycroft’s work is often infused with dark humour and examines issues around identity and the body in pain. She is the recipient of many awards and has gallery representation in Montreal, Los Angeles and Paris.
Thorneycroft taught at the University of Manitoba’s School of Art as a sessional instructor from 1984-2010. She lives in Winnipeg with her husband artist Michael Boss, and their 18 year old cat the virgin Larry.
Keith Wood BFA
This Manitoba artist has a background in Design management and a teaching certificate. After exploring acrylic and oil paint for almost 30 years, he started using the “encaustic” medium (pigmented molten wax.), working in the abstract genre, and broad natural forms with evidence of the process the work has emerged from. Preliminary sketches or drawings are rare, preferring to write the thought as opposed to drawing it.
Every painting has an intent which one must sense, then act on. Creating a work of art involves an intense dialogue with the work throughout the process. http://www.theartofkeithwood.ca
