As part of its commitment to youthful, emerging artists, The ACT Art Gallery occasionally commissions site-specific works that allow for some thematic connection with the community of Maple Ridge.
This year, Aimée Henny Brown will be creating a new work based on her research on the area’s natural and documented history, culminating in an installation in The ACT Gallery.
Aimée’s artistic practice engages archives, research and printed matter to place historical content within her contemporary visual art practice. She has received several awards and grants, notably the Joseph Beuys Scholarship for Artistic Merit and several Canada Council Production Grants.
Intersecting local history, architecture, and regional topography, Aimée Henny Brown’s collage-based works reference notions of ‘shelter’ amidst both real and fantastic settings. These works are visually resolved, but open-ended in their messaging, leaving the viewer to complete the engagement with their own response.
Aimée holds a Masters Degree in Fine and Media Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Alberta focused on print and book media.
