Carol Wainio, "Puss in Boots Copies", 2009
Carol Wainio, "Puss in Boots Copies", 2009, acrylic on canvas, 137.2 x 182.9 cm (1.83 m)
Carol Wainio’s show is made up of works that have to do with the notion of book illustration, mostly to accompany the fairy tale of Puss in Boots. Wainio’s dystopian settings, rendered in skillfully handled paint and with intriguingly constructed spaces, are rife with tongue-in-cheek cultural references. Carol Wainio is a senior Canadian artist who lives and works in Ottawa. This exhibition is curated by Diana Nemiroff, formerly of the National Gallery, and is organized and circulated by the Carleton University Art Gallery.
