Chris Kuzmanovich is a Calgary-based creative originally from the Northwest Territories. He studied interior design at Mount Royal College and worked within this field for several years before establishing his own design firm, CVK, in 2007. His work in design naturally led to his pursuit of art when he began painting as a self-reflexive practice over ten years ago. Since then, he has become known for his bold abstracts, which often contain suggestions of architectural forms.
Kuzmanovich’s latest series, Eleven, is—or perhaps more accurately, was—loosely based on the best-selling book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. Initially conceived as a visual record and celebration of the agreements at work, the series took an unexpected turn once the artist began to question his ability to live all four agreements at once. The resulting works are complex, emotionally charged snapshots of a journey to understand and better one’s self.
