Collaboration & Contrast is an upcoming summer exhibition presented by Lattimer Gallery featuring the work of Kwakwaka’wakw artists and brothers, Rod Smith Galuyagmi and Steve Smith Dla’kwagila. Since first learning from their father, the late Harris Smith, both brothers have been exploring the medium of acrylic paint. Rod and Steve have been painting creative sculptural works for over twenty years. By translating their individual Kwakwaka’wakw style they have created a visual language that is uniquely their own. The show will highlight collaboration pieces as well as a selection of individual works including cedar bentwood boxes, sculptures, and paddles. By partnering the works of the brothers, the show will reveal how two different styles, though initially rooted, can stand together and alone. We are thrilled to present these incredible pieces as Rod and Steve created each piece exclusively for Collaboration & Contrast.
