"Cover Up #1"
Jeffrey Spalding, "Cover Up #1," monoprint on art paper, 25” x 35”.
Since the mid-1980s Jeffrey Spalding has been making 'salvage' paintings, wherein he conjoins a work of art that has been tossed on the rubbish heap, sent to the junk stores or garage sales, unwanted, unloved. His intention is to find ways to cooperatively coax these discarded aesthetic pieces back into our consideration. A collaboration has emerged with Master Print Maker Gordon Novak, of which discarded prints are being repurposed under the creative direction of Jeffrey Spalding. A number of First Nations ‘proofs’ were selected and overprinted with HBC blanket signature colour stripes: a literal and metaphoric 'Cover Up'.
Opening reception: Saturday March 28th 2-5pm (artist in attendance)
