Creative Resistance: Art and Women in Syria Today, with Abir Boukhari
to
Canadian Museum for Human Rights 85 Israel Asper Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 0L5
Abir Boukhari, founder of the first contemporary art centre in Syria, will trace the impact of profound geopolitical shifts on women and artists in her native Syria.
Despite the fact that creative expression is now seen as a brave political act, Boukhari and the artists of Syria continue to draw the world’s attention to issues such as child marriage, sexual slavery and state-enforced control of women. Boukhari will discuss the power of art for her country, and particularly its women, even as so many have been forced into exile.
