Don't Let the Flakes Out

"Don't let the Flakes Out" is an exploration of visual communication. Gerry develops his work by obscuring, distorting or changing the context of our common language and then adding his unique sense of humour.
"For this exhibition, I brought together a variety of prints that cover the broad range of media I’ve actively been working with over the last few years. This includes traditional relief and screen prints, digital prints, photography and mixed media. The unifying element between this variety of prints is my exploration of the common forms of visual communication we experience every day; from commercial cereal boxes to signs on the side of the road. Each piece was developed with the premise of having components of our common language obscured, distorted or affected by a change in context that allows for the message to be interpreted in a new way. This reflects on how established forms of our language, and communication in general, can be compromised for the sake of convenience. It’s a unique body of work that provides some interesting perspectives and a sense of humour too."
