Eyes of Society: Art, Traditional Knowledge, and the Watchmen of Haida Gwaii, is a collection of over thirty works of art by ten Haida and non-indigenous artists and features the 2017 Banff Mountain Film Festival finalist selection, “Eyes of Society” by Braid Films. The short film documents a group of artists from across Canada as they embark on a 14 day kayak journey to the UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient Haida village of SGang Gwaay.
Eyes of Society features the artwork of April White, Anja Karisik, Sophie Lavoie, Jim Hart, Gwaai Edenshaw, Jaalen Edenshaw, Gary Landon, Andrew Sookrah, W David Ward, Robert Bateman along with the documentary Eyes of Society by Joe Crawford and Allison Smith of Braid Films.
The Gallery will be offering complimentary admission to the exhibit for those who self identify as Indigenous as a way to acknowledge our recognition for the traditional people who have lived on these lands for thousands of years.
