"Primavera in the Forest"
Antoinette Hérivel, "Primavera in the Forest," oil on canvas, 66" x 24”.
Paintings of life size dresses and hats. The artist has eliminated the figure and presents just the dress or accessory. The paintings recall narrative and personality through unique background settings that recall the absent wearer. Painted in oils, the luscious colours of the work hints at seduction and the many moods of "dressing up", but more poignantly the absence of the figure suggests the invisibility of women in the broader society.
