Madrona Gallery is pleased to present a major retrospective of works by Harry Stanbridge R.C.A. This exhibition explores over four decades of important paintings and connects them to his current “Attic Series”. His "Attic Series" is an exploration of various iconic motifs in his earlier works, and expresses how we compartmentalize fragments as time passes, revealing that all we experience makes a mark and contributes to what we become.
Born in Quesnel, B.C. Harry Stanbridge studied painting with Don Jarvis and Takao Tanabe at the Vancouver School of Art (now the Emily Carr College of Art + Design) from 1963 to 1968. After moving to Victoria, he taught art at Spectrum High School from 1978 to 2003 while maintaining a regular studio practice.
Stanbridge is an elected member of the Royal Canadian Academy of the Arts. His work has been exhibited regularly throughout Canada and the United States. Standbridge's paintings are found in many important collections including the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Seattle Art Museum, University of British Colombia, University of Alberta, Provence of British Columbia and many others.
