HEAT: 3 methods / 3 directions / 3 artists working with ceramics
By Zachari Logan, Grace Nickel, Osvaldo Yero
HEAT presents three artists using three different methods to express, explore and expand the boundaries of ceramics. Each one of these artists is deeply invested in their creative work and art practice, and is building upon traditional knowledge and influences with new ideas and experimentation using a diverse dialogue firmly rooted in collaboration, information sharing and learning.
Grace Nickel produces gravity-defying monumental and commemorative porcelain structures, using a blend of cutting-edge technology and traditional methods.
Zachari Logan uses clay as an extension of his drawings to create sensual sculptures that blend his own body with ubiquitous prairie flora and fauna.
Osvaldo Yero touches on his Cuban origins and experiences by contrasting North American and Latin American symbols with three- dimensional sculptures of striking honesty and precision.
HEAT runs from September 5 to October 31, 2015.
Opening reception at Actual Contemporary, Winnipeg is September 4, 2015 at 7PM
