Opening Reception: January 5 2018, 7-9pm
The Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art is kicking off 2018 with the next installment of the Intermission Series featuring the work of four upcoming local artists from UBC Okanagan’s Critical and Creative Studies Department. The multi-disciplinary exhibition will feature Arden Boehm, Angela Gmeinweser, Reta Stevenson, and Carmen Winther. Taking an object-oriented perspective on all the things that construct the gallery experience, the exhibition will complicate the traditional relationships between the audience and the artwork. By shifting the experiential nature of the gallery, the exhibition will look at how the space influences the experience. The objects in the space are rendered non-utilitarian, familiar material processes become unrecognizable, and the viewer becomes an object among an assemblage of objects without hierarchy.
Intermission is a joint initiative between the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art and students of the Critical and Creative Studies Department at UBC Okanagan. It is intended to be a 'show between shows' at the Alternator to assist local art students gain practical work experience in a professional exhibition environment.
