Newzones is excited to present “SEASONS”, a solo exhibition by Joshua Jensen-Nagle.
Contemporary photographer Joshua Jensen-Nagle captivates viewers with his evocative photographs and singular aesthetic. Best known for his dreamy aerial beaches and expansive ski scenes, Jensen-Nagle captures scenes of leisure from a distance, often from high above, transforming people into toy-like figures against sublime natural backdrops. “SEASONS” highlights select work from ongoing series’ “Endless Summer” and “Winter,” showcasing people as colorful specks clustered on long stretches of sand, rock and snow, like abstract elements. His immersive, cinematic, large-scale photos invite viewers to lose themselves in the crowd and the striking landscape, sparking associations of memory and nostalgia.
In the tradition of photographers, Jensen-Nagle’s images reveal arresting visual patterns in the everyday world and create dramatic shifts in perspective, showing humans completely enveloped in their environment. Viewing photography as a “means to evoke emotion, rather than document a reality,” he has spent a decade traveling the globe in search of beachscapes dotted with bathers and mountainscapes sprinkled with skiers to turn into compelling images, often hanging out of helicopters to capture his birds-eye views.
Jensen-Nagle bases his successful full-time art practice in Toronto and has become a prominent fixture in the arts community. He has mounted over fifty exhibitions in the last 12 years, including the Griffin Museum (Boston) in 2010 and a group show at Glenbow (Calgary), titled “Through the Looking Glass” in 2008.
Joshua Jensen-Nagle has been featured in Photolife, National Post, Galleries West, and Canadian House and Home, Fashion, Harper’s, Canadian Art and Art in America. He has developed a strong standing in the art world and is collected widely throughout North America and Europe. Such collections include Cirque de Soleil, Ryerson University, First Energy Petroleum Ltd, MasterCard International, Microsoft, Transcontinental, Hilton Hotels and Target Corporation Canada, as well as numerous private collections world-wide.
