Kim Dorland’s energetic and compelling paintings exploit the conventions of landscape imagery by using the material qualities of paint to question habitual responses to such an established subject. Influenced by Canadian painters such as Tom Thompson, Emily Carr, and David Milne, Dorland is adept at transforming the extreme landscapes of the West Coast into his main protagonist. Dorland received his BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and his MFA from York University in Toronto. His work is held in several public and private collections, including the Audain Art Museum (Whistler, BC), the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Montreal, Quebec) the Glenbow Museum (Calgary, Alberta) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (San Diego, California). Kim Dorland lives and works in Vancouver, BC.
