The Ferry Building Gallery is pleased to present Let’s Play, a mixed media exhibition that showcases artwork by four local artists – George Dart, Diane Isherwood, Sophia Longo and Ron Love.
George Dart is a retired art teacher who lives in Vancouver. He studied art history at UBC and later became a studio instructor of painting and printmaking. He has designed theatrical sets for production companies across the Lower Mainland. His latest series of works, Making Nature, combines the still-life genre with allegorical narrative, through which he attempts to bring us close to a new version of the natural world.
Diane Isherwood first encountered visual abstraction while peering down a microscope in medical school in 1966 and has been in its thrall ever since. She practiced medicine for 37 years in Montreal and Vancouver, while also taking many art classes. Her technique begins with random marks on canvas or paper. Next, she experiments with a new tool, technique or colour to see where it takes her.
Sophia Longo is a watercolourist and fashion textile print designer who moved to North Vancouver from São Paulo in 2017. She received her BFA in fashion design from Faculdade Santa Marcelina and her MFA in art history from Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado. Her main goal is to focus attention on environment and animal preservation issues to help us reconnect with our natural state.
Ron Love has a degree in Industrial Design from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. He has worked for 40 years as an architectural illustrator/designer and painter. His architectural illustrations have appeared in many publications over the years. Recently, he turned his design talents to woodworking and delights in creating whimsical creatures and houses that provoke amusement.
