Into the Light: Paintings by Shosh Shalev-Minuk
“love can overcome death . . . what is required of you in this is memory and devotion.”—Mark Helprin
In the past year I have experienced the loss of four beloved members of my family. The loss of loved ones is painful and difficult. Knowing that we will not see them anymore and missing them is overwhelming.
In my current work of abstract, I want to express my hope and desire that death can be overcome, that love, memory, and devotion will keep my loved ones present, heal my sorrow, and enable me to emerge from sadness into the light.
With brushstroke, texture, and composition, and with the use of luminous light and vibrant colour, the signature features of my art, I strive to create the qualities of vitality and motion in my paintings to reflect my interior soul, inspired by my firm faith in the power of love and memory to conquer sadness and restore the light. - Shosh Shalev-Minuk
