Madeleine Lamont : Effloresce
Celebrated for her exquisite and contemporary take on the Dutch tradition of botanical illustration, Madeleine Lamont conveys a sense of urgency with her expressive floral paintings on mylar. Her fervid brush strokes and gestural sketches combine to capture the moment of utmost beauty before the inevitable decay, calling to mind notions of growth and joy alongside death and loss.
Madeleine Lamont is Toronto-based artist whose work has been widely exhibited and collected for almost three decades. She has had an instrumental role in the development of several art collectives, serving as a founding member of Farrago, The Red Head Gallery, and The House Project.
Karen Klassen : I Am Not Here For Your Amusement
Fed up with how women are represented in art and the media—primarily driven by the male gaze—Karen Klassen set out to portray women as the strong and fierce individuals they are. Painted in her signature illustrative style with bold colour and texture, Klassen’s refreshing portraits are unabashed representations of women, gazing right back at you.
Karen Klassen is a painter and award-winning illustrator based in Calgary. Her work can be found in gallery shows, fashion campaigns, and books throughout North America and Europe.
