Opening Reception, February 1, 2018, 5-8 pm.
EACH PAINTED DOCUMENT is a visual manifest of Dicey's travels into and out of his workplace. It features recent large works on canvas, mid-sized works on paper, a 'Swarm', a wall collage of 'notations', a site-specific installation, and a suite of vitrines housing his dedicated sketch-book-works.
The exhibition sets out a representative collection of recent studio activity, with hints of the processes and interactions that feed his practice.
In celebration of Dicey's ongoing art practice and latest body of paintings, Calgary artist Grant Poier has been commissioned to produce a (con)textual component to the Nickle exhibition. His written materials will contribute to a unique text-wall installation, and provide content for the exhibition catalogue. A fellow collaborator and long-time observer of Dicey's intense creative engagements, Poier responds, writing around (not about) this work which needs no words attached.
