Long time Ucluelet resident and five-time president of Pacific Rim Arts Society, Marla Thirsk’s work has been profiled in The Artists Magazine selected as “Artist of the Month” for October 2011 and finalist in their Portraiture/Figurative Contest in December 2010. Also in 2010, Marla won the Dianne Farris Juror’s Award at Sooke Fine Arts Exhibit. Largely self-taught, she has a very original approach to her portraiture. Never without a sketchbook at hand, she is constantly drawing and noting ideas or themes for her paintings. Sometimes these drawings are developed into fully realized images. "I like to unobtrusively watch people in coffee shops or informal gatherings, their gestures inspire me. I am fascinated by how mythology, both Biblical and folkloric, is still applicable to everyday situations."
Join us for the opening reception Wednesday, June 19 from 6-8pm.
