Barbara Ballachey: Meditation on Abstraction
to
Barbara Ballachey
Barbara Ballachey, "Blue square," nd
acrylic on canvas, 24" x 20"
Opening reception: Saturday March 16th, 1-4 pm (artist in attendance)
Barbara Ballachey's career spans five decades and as she moves into the status as a senior artist she talks more about intention, thought and meditation that is inscribed in her abstract paintings. "It is not easy painting abstract" Barbara admits, but it has encouraged her to let go of her pre-existing ideas of the landscape - taking risks, allowing for failure, learning and finding successes as she challenges herself with the composition, color, shape, mark making and design. Working through every piece she calls on her relationship with art and meditation to bring all the elements of a great abstract painting together, so that it rewards the viewer with a unified perspective.
Barbara Ballachey graduated from the University of Calgary, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1971. She has been included in many workshops around the world, such as Emma Lake (Saskatchewan), Gulkistan (Iceland), The Triangle Workshop (New York), Triangle France Workshop (France), to name a few. Barbara's work has been shown internationally and is in many public, corporate and private collections.
