Grant Poier
Calgary artist Grant Poier has been commissioned to produce a (con)textual component to Each Painted Document, an exhibition of recent works by Mark Dicey. Poier's written materials will contribute text to the installation, and provide content for the exhibition catalogue. A fellow collaborator and long-time observer of Dicey’s intense creative engagements, Poier responds, writing around (not about) this work which needs no words attached.
Poier is an interdisciplinary artist who has worked as an arts administrator, advocate, writer, curator and educator since the early 1980s. He was a cofounder in 1979 of Center Art Video (EMMEDIA), an artist run media arts production and programming center. Poier has presented video tapes, installations, performances and assemblages locally and internationally. Since 1987 he has participated in numerous artist collaborations, some long term, in Calgary and in Europe. During the 1990s Poier has been integrating ideas of performance action, public sites and environments, collaboration and community, in his work as a cultural catalyst.
