Pat Nelson is a retired Library Manager. She and her husband moved to the Okanagan in 2011. Pat was so inspired by the beauty of the Okanagan that she decided to take a drawing class to capture this beauty. She got “hooked” on drawing and painting and continues to take courses to develop her skill and her creativity. Pat works primarily in acrylics. Her subjects include still life, landscapes, and portraits and pet portraits. She also experiments with abstract creations.
Pat is the Co-Leader of the Okanagan Chapter of Room to Read and a member of Toastmasters International. She loves to travel and has traveled extensively in Europe, Egypt and Turkey. She loves experiencing the art of other countries. Pat enjoys and supports public art and seeks it out when she travels.
To Pat, the most powerful and poignant art is that which captures life in the moment: a gesture, a pose, a facial expression, the interactions between people or animals. These unique and special moments intrigue and inspire her. She seeks to create work that will provoke an emotion in the viewer. She is also inspired by the work of the Impressionists, especially Van Gogh and Monet. She is also interested in more modern artists such as Picasso and Miro. She was delighted to be able to experience the fabulous art and exhibits at the Venice Biennale, 2017.
She also finds architecture inspiring and tries to portray the unique details of buildings and the atmosphere on the street in the scenes that she paints. Pat enjoys and supports public art and seeks it out in her many travels.
