With work from the Prairies, the USA, and the UK, Rewilding Modernity is imagined as a kind of laboratory, considering art production from the 1950s to the present, and asking how this history has been recorded and framed. The exhibition, curated by the Mendel’s Chief Curator, Lisa Baldissera, examines Saskatchewan’s relationship to modernist art practice, via the artists who lived and worked here, and the international artists who participated in the Emma Lake Workshops. The exhibition reveals a zone of flux, where notions of old and new, formalism and regionalism, are reconsidered.
