Robert Pierce: Hide and Seek
Reception: Saturday March 23, 1-4 pm | Artist Talk at 2 pm
At once playful and serious, Robert Pierce’s charcoal drawings are the result of a ritual spanning over twenty-five years. Every night, the artist turns to his sketch book and connects to his subconscious using the Surrealist technique of automatism or automatic drawing. Using charcoal and eraser, Pierce lets instinct and impulse take over, freeing himself to uncover surprising beauty in unadulterated action. Just like his drawings, this exhibition will continually evolve, as works sold will be replaced with another.
Robert Pierce is a Calgary-based artist with a BFA from the University of Calgary. He is known primarily for his award-winning figurative drawings and paintings which have been exhibited in Western Canada for over twenty years. Not one to wax-poetic, his artist statement is simply: “I like to draw and colour.”
