Noelle Nadeau
Matriarchal Muse – A Conversation, is a grouping of paintings carefully chosen to shed light on this special mother – daughter relationship and how it is reflected through their art. This show is a homage to motherhood, love, and sacrifice. Curated by Alissa Woodside and Noëlle Nadeau-Khoo
Roberta Nadeau, Noëlle’s mother, was an artist, art therapist and teacher. As young child, Noëlle remembers accompanying her Mom to art classes at Kootenay School of Arts. Roberta was an inspiration to Noëlle. A lifetime of art was left behind from Roberta, the gathering of this commemorative show has been an emotional journey for curators Alissa Woodside and Noëlle Nadeau Khoo who have found a balance. This exhibition of paintings has been chosen after memories relived, tears shed, giggles shared, reflection, and love. Alissa and Noëlle encourage the viewer to spend time to reflect on the work and story shown here but, also on themselves, their relationships and where they are in life right now. For it is a journey and conversation in and of itself.
Roberta Nadeau studied painting in various schools of art in Canada and the U.S. She had exhibited widely throughout Canada and the US and was the recipient of numerous awards, scholarships and provincial art grants. In addition to being a painter, Roberta was a Registered Art Therapist and a founding director of the National Art Therapy Council of Canada. She worked as an Art Therapist in Kelowna and Vancouver. Roberta taught art and lectured at several universities and colleges throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East and her work was represented by galleries in Canada and the US. A mother of four children and an inspiration to many. She is fondly remembered by many who knew her.
Noëlle Nadeau Khoo is an abstract mixed media painter involved in the arts for over twenty years. Born in the United States, as a young girl, she moved with her family to Canada. Since graduating with her BFA, she has studied at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, University of British Columbia Okanagan, and with several senior acclaimed artists through Federation of Canadian Artists workshops, and perhaps – most importantly – has spent countless hours in her studio painting. Prior to returning to the BC Interior, Noëlle taught art, for over ten years. She enjoys teaching a Healing Art class at BrainTrust, in Kelowna, and giving workshops and demonstrations. Noëlle is an active member of Federation of Canadian Artists. Her work can be found in both public and private collections in Canada and the United States.
