Sean Caulfield, "The Flood (detail), 2016
ink, carved maple plywood, Blaine Campbell photographer
An Edmonton artist whose prints are internationally renowned, Caulfield conjures the dark trauma of destruction and the potential for regeneration in his new carved wood sculpture and relief mural works. Exposing the processes behind his woodcut, mezzotint and linocut prints, also presented in the exhibition, these new works are finely detailed, powerfully moving and monumental in scale.
“My work considers the ways our environment is transformed by forces of urban and industrial growth… Ultimately my work focusses on the idea that crisis and change – whether it be environmental, political or personal – can be a significant and positive catalyst for rebirth, growth and courage.”
