Frances Obie, "Northern Rockies, Muncho Lake," 2018
pastel on hardboard, 16" x 32", Poster by The Centre For Creative Arts
Opening reception is May 4th, 7pm - 9pm
This solo show of pastel paintings is about artist Frances Obie's connection to places in Canada where she has lived and traveled including Southern Ontario, Northern BC and both coasts.
Many of the reference photos for these paintings were taken from the back of a motorcycle. Frances believes these photos offer the material because they provide the essence of the scene without superfluous detail - the resulting painting is about the fleeting effect of light rather than a record of physical features.
Frances believes pastel is the perfect medium for describing the brilliance of light due to the translucent quality which can be acheived.
