Throughout his career as a master print maker and painter, Stu Oxley creates lyrically abstract images. From delicate hues to vibrant pastels, these ephemeral works are richly layered and often evocative of landscape while clearly abstract. Fields of delicate hues are punctuated by markings and gestures that are deliberately placed and rendered with precision and force.
Stu Oxley is captivated by the nature of the markings themselves, their weight, size, placement and associations. The markings create depth within a two- dimensional context and play with the void of space between distant markings and tangible surface lines. Rather than create a literal transcription of the world, Oxley seems to penetrate beneath the surface and sit on the edge of consciousness.
The artist will attend the opening.
