Gallery 1C03 is pleased to present Littoral Landscape, a solo exhibition of site-specific mixed-media installations by artist Tracy Peters that investigates ever-shifting shorelines of Lake Winnipeg.

Through an artistic practice that favours multi-sensory experimentation, Peters focuses on time-based exchanges between natural and human occurrences and their effect on the fluctuating environment along the waters’ edge. Littoral Landscape offers an immersive experience with sculptural installations that use photographic processes as their starting point as well as video and sound. Peters created artworks over several months based upon repeated visits to a remote limestone beach north of Hecla/Grindstone Provincial Park as well as to the seasonal pole piers that cottagers and the municipality insert along the shores of Dunnottar. Her poetic works respond to the poignancy of eroding landscapes and urge us to consider our responsibility to protect them.

Tracy Peters is a Winnipeg-based multidisciplinary artist who examines relationships between organic and human-built environments. In her site-responsive studio practice, she responds to intersections of time, space, light and weather. Many years of darkroom practice initiated her research into fragile materials and the emotive power of surfaces. Her installations and videos are largely based in the photographic process. In 2014, Peters had her first major solo exhibition, SHED, at aceartinc. in Winnipeg. She has been awarded grants from the Manitoba Arts Council and the Winnipeg Arts Council, as well as residencies that include a partnership between Void Gallery and the Social Studios and Gallery in Derry, Northern Ireland, the Deep Bay Residency program in Riding Mountain National Park, Canada, and the ArtCenter/South Florida-MAWA artist exchange program in Miami Beach, FL. Her work has exhibited across Canada and in Europe.
