Transitions a Tribute
Reception: Sunday, July 1 from 1 to 4 PM
About the show:
The role of the artist is to pay attention to his or her surroundings and to render their artistic expressions. These artists represent work in photography, painting, drawing and collage. It is the intent of the artists to portray their visions and passions. Jean Wiens was a good friend, a colleague and mentor who always followed the radiance and true path in her art.
Sadly Jean passed away on February 1, 2018. This show is a tribute to her.
About the artists:
Gregg Burner, photographer, \investment Executive, financial advisor, family service counsellor, has worked as a photo journalist, fashion photographer, photo artist, judge and lecturer. He produced, wrote and appeared in over 200 cable TV programs and has written and conducted over 200 public seminars. Gregg is one of the “shooters” featured in Russ Gourluck’s book, The Winnipeg Tribune. Since retiring, Gregg’s focus has changed from people to nature.
In this show the photos are by Gregg and the sculptures he photographed are by Mother Nature and Leo Mol.
Debbie Lawson’s artistic tendencies were first recognized in Junior High but remained dormant for several years while Debbie pursued a career with Air Canada and discovered the world of travel. She retired after 32.5 years to finally devote time to her dream job. A self-taught artist, she draws inspiration from her experiences, although many of her artworks are drawn from subjects closer to home. Always curious, she's attracted to the way light dances on a building, a pathway, a flower, a rock or a snow covered bench and by the colors they inspire me to paint or draw them in. It’s a relationship that evolves with each brush stroke and each canvas.
Debbie has exhibited her work with various Art Groups, including the Winnipeg Sketch Club, The Manitoba Society of Artists, The Punch Gallery, Air Canada Employee Art Show, Medea Gallery, and The Cre8ery.
“Someone once told me that because I was an artist, they would love to see the world through my eyes. I like to think my art brings out the beauty of things that many of us overlook in our busy everyday lives. Every canvas is a new playground.”
Annemarie Layman is a Winnipeg artist who graduated with a Fine Arts and Education degree from the University of Manitoba. She has showcased her work in a number of juried exhibitions and has received several awards. Currently she is affiliated with the Manitoba Society of Artists, the Winnipeg Sketch Club, cre8ery, Local Colours and Eastern Manitoba Artist Collective. For many years she was a teacher with the Winnipeg 1 School Division and today she concentrates on building her career as an artist.
Annemarie Layman is a multimedia artist who researches and explores images from the Renaissance through contemporary realism using collage, printing and stenciling. She creates her own collage materials with watercolour, acrylics and found objects.
Jean Wiens was a multi-media artist with a very deep interest in people and mental telepathy. She also loved to garden and used her photographic images in her collages. Jean spent four years studying at the University of Manitoba in the Fine Arts Program and has received several awards for her work. Jean Wiens has exhibited art in Winnipeg since the 1980s with various Art Groups and Galleries, for example, the Adelaide McDermot Gallery, Cre8ery Gallery, Wayne Arthur Gallery and City Park Conservatory. She has been in many Juried Shows including The Manitoba Society of Artists, the Red River Ex. and The Mennonite Heritage Gallery and has received several awards for her work.
