Each artist in this show interconnects a creative art practice with a career in cultural sector, and all have a deep commitment to community.
The exhibition title is a tribute to a small regional group of artists focused on creative development and supported by IPAC (Indigenous People’s Artist Collective of Prince Albert). The core members inspired by the art actions of the Guerrilla Girls and the Riot Grrrl movement claimed the name Uber Gurlz. Beginning as an open studio project, the group founded in 2006 in response to a need in their local community for a safe studio workspace for young women and LGBTQ youth. Uber Gurlz encourages a multi-cultural membership and leads from an urban indigenous perspective.
Guest curated by Michel Boutin
