Vern Gray will be exhibiting his acrylic paintings from the last year. A year ago, he set the goal of exploring his work as an artist. He embarked on a project called a Work a Month, where he created a minimum of one acrylic painting each month. The results are his work for his first solo show called Starting Points.
The works for Vern’s Starting Points show are acrylic paintings. Most are 36” x 36”, with a few larger pieces 36” x 48”. The inspiration for his work is the photographic images that Vern takes while traveling and experiencing the world around him. Most images are of the natural landscape. The process that Vern works through are manipulating his photos in various I Phone apps before creating his paintings. This allows him to manipulate the effects of form and colour on the imagery before painting. Images in the show are inspired by photos from: Saltspring Island, Akamina Provincial Park, Kootenay National Park, Kananaskis, New York City, and the rural area north of Calgary.
