Group Rebranded as CARFAC Alberta
Update your files – there's a new name for the non-profit group formerly known as Visual Arts Alberta – CARFAC.
It's now known simply as CARFAC Alberta.
One of eight provincial affiliates of CARFAC, an organization of artists working for artists, it was founded as the Visual Arts Alberta Association in 1996.
The new name comes with a new logo – a large "C" filled with white circles on a vivid pink background.
CARFAC, the short form for Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens, is the national voice for visual artists.
Dick Averns is CARFAC Alberta's new engagement coordinator for the Calgary region.
An interdisciplinary artist who focuses on socio-political constructs, such as identity politics, mental health and environmental issues, he has taught studio art, professional practices and art history at the University of British Columbia, the Alberta College of Art and Design and the University of Calgary.
His critical writing has been published by Canadian Art, Momus, Akimbo and Galleries West.
