Beau Dick

Dick was a Kwakwaka'wakw master carver and a hereditary chief from the northern tip of Vancouver Island. He was known for his mask carvings and as an advocate for Aboriginal rights. more


Sixty-five years ago this exhibition of Kwakwaka’wakw potlatch masks and regalia would have been unthinkable. Potlatches were illegal in Canada from 1884 to 1951. more
