Shannon Ravenhall

Shannon Ravenhall at work

Biography

Shannon began carving in 1986.   Although painting had been Shannon's passion for many years the moment she touched stone she felt an instant affinity and she knew this was her natural medium.  Shannon selects stone to which she feels an immediate connection.  Preferring not to impose an idea into the piece, but rather open up and let the stone speak to her, thus the sculpture becomes a form of synchronicity.

Shannon's relationship with form and space probably began in her native Wisconsin when she worked at the Wingspread Foundation, a Johnson Wax Company housed in a Frank Lloyd Wright building.  After moving to California she worked as TV. Production Assistant for ABC and the Rand Corp.  Shannon also spent 14 years at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law as support staff.

Shannon is a full time sculptor and has exhibited in many galleries, art festivals and also in the 1994 Street of Dreams Show Home “The Empress.”

For the last six years Shannon has donated a sculpture to the Crystal Gala Fundraiser for Cancer Research, Abbotsford, B.C.  Also to many local charities and auction fundraisers.

Art Education

1984 - 1989 Numerous Continuing Education and night school courses while working full time for the Faculty of Law at the University of British Columbia.  These courses were in painting (acrylic and oil), drawing, watercolor, Japanese woodcut, clay and stone sculpture.  Also, in this period, Shannon attended several years of independent workshops given by various teachers from the University of British Columbia.
