it is painting with wax, but I thought that to be archivally sound encaustic painting, the layers of wax had to be fused together as they were applied, with a heat gun or other device...to create a solid mass of pigment & wax that couldn't flake off. This stage isn't shown....maybe it's not important?
I've tried encaustic painting myself so am always interested...
