Surrey Art Gallery announces their summer 50th anniversary exhibition 10 and 10: Story of Stories at Surrey Art Gallery from June 28 to August 9, 2025. Admission is free.
This group exhibition creates conversations between works acquired from the first ten years of collecting (1975–1985) and those acquired from the last ten years (2014–2024). These pairings are intended to highlight stories that emerge between them and to present narratives of Surrey’s social histories through themes of landscape, architecture, portraiture, and movement.
The opening of the Gallery’s summer exhibitions will be celebrated at the [e]merging Art Party on July 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. where exhibiting artists Lyse Lemieux and Sara Khan will be in conversation with Assistant Curator Jas Lally. The evening will also celebrate the opening of Experiments in Solitude—analogue photography, videography, and cyanotypes by Brittney Appleby and MV Williams. Visitors can contribute to a collage inspired by MV Williams’ ideas about home, place and memory, and the ARTS 2025 People’s Choice award will be announced.
Afterwards, the celebration continues offsite at UrbanScreen with commissions from the 5X Festival art program featuring artists Chand Bhangal, Harleen Grewal, Stuti Gulati, Pavan Sangha, Nishita Malik, Aman Khinda, and Sabid Ali, curated by Sahil Mroke. Other works that will be shown are Justen LeRoy’s Lay Me Down in Praise, a celebration of Black environmentalism, and Annie Briard’s Refracted Fields, a shimmering vision of Northwest Coast landscapes.
On July 24, Lally will give an in-depth tour of 10 and 10: Story of Stories from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Invited local Surrey-based artists Kiranjot Kaur and Chito Maravilla who participated in researching and selecting two artworks from the permanent collection will share their reflections on their pairings.
