2018 Circle Craft Christmas Market
Circle Craft Cooperative is thrilled to announce the 2018 Circle Craft Christmas Market. The theme of this year’s market, “Farmhouse Christmas,” is a phrase that brings to mind old-school simplicity, rustic charm, the countryside and nature, as well as artisan craftsmanship. Of course, in our modern world, urbanites have made sure our cities include these things as well. Our artisans come from across Canada, from remote communities, as well as from the big cities.
The 2018 Circle Craft Christmas Market features artisans from coast to coast: BC craftspeople from communities such as Whaletown, Quathiaski Cove, North Vancouver, Vernon, Duncan, Gibsons, and Vancouver will showcase the very best of this province. Artisans will also come from as far as Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, St-Pierre-Jolys (MB), Blandford (NS), Vegreville (AB), Magog (QC), Georgian Bay (ON), and more!
Circle Craft Christmas Market, a Vancouver tradition for over four decades, traditionally begins the holiday shopping season in the city. In 2018, over 300 artisans (more than 70 new!) will take part: clothing designers, potters, wood and metal workers, glass blowers, jewellers, toy makers, candle and soap makers, and more!
In 2018, The Campaign for Wool coincides with Circle Craft Market. The Campaign for Wool is a global endeavor initiated by its patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, in order to raise awareness amongst consumers about the unique, natural, and sustainable benefits offered by wool. Circle Craft Market 2018 features many artisans who use wool in their products, including: FernWeftFibreArt, DutchyMitts, Wee Woollies, Natural Wool Knits, and Susan Savill Designs.
Other 2018 exhibitors include Market favourites Gordon Hutchens (clay), Yookyoung Yong Ceramics, Karen Wilson (handbags), Monster Lab (monster dolls), MiMi (toys), Shi Studio (jewellery), Chi’s Creations (jewellery), Blackford Design (clothing), Adhesif (clothing), Daub + Design (activewear), Daksha’s Gourmet Spices, and Tickleberry’s (candy); new exhibitors include Elaine Brewer-White (clay), Sandra Ramos (clay), Bee’s Knees Beach (1920s-inspired beachwear for kids), Metamorphose (clothing), Gosia Eco Designs (clothing), Ilee Papergoods, Glory Glassworks, Ruckusdesign (leather accessories), First Growth Reclaimed Design (furniture), and Pulp Function (marquees). Also returning, 2017 Circle Craft Christmas Market Silver and Bronze Award-winners for Excellence in Craft, Keith Kerrigan Haida Artist and Lorna Moffat Design.
Circle Craft Christmas Market attracts some 40,000 people eager to discover the creations of hundreds of Canadian artisans all of whom are jury-selected based on talent and diversity. In addition, to round out the experience, visitors will find craft technique demos (e.g. a pottery wheel and dress painting by Lennard Taylor Design Studio), contests, and the "Budding Artists" open area where emerging artists will introduce exciting and innovative new work.
About Circle Craft Cooperative: Formed in 1972, Circle Craft is a BC-run artist cooperative dedicated to providing opportunities for craftspeople to connect with the community. Members of Circle Craft exhibit at the Market; they also play host to makers of fine crafts from across Canada. The first Market took place in 1973 at The Cultch. The Circle Craft Christmas Market has always retained its unique character and mandate to showcase high quality craft via the artisans themselves.
