University of Alberta, "A Collector’s Eye ᓄᐊᑦᑎᕙᑦᑑᑉ ᕿᓂᐅᓯᖓ: The Halvarson Gift of Inuit Art," 2019
A Collector’s Eye ᓄᐊᑦᑎᕙᑦᑑᑉ ᕿᓂᐅᓯᖓ: The Halvarson Gift of Inuit Art celebrates the contributions of Milton and Wendy Halvarson and the important legacy their lifetime of collecting has made to the University of Alberta Art Collection.
In 2019, Milton Halvarson (1939-2019) bequeathed 46 works of art that would bring his contribution to 113 works of art to the University of Alberta Museums. These works of art can be organized in three distinct areas of Inuit art and material culture, namely prints, sculptures, and dolls. Skillfully made for print and craft co-operatives and later sold to dealers and collectors in southern Canada, the works of art in this exhibition show the vibrancy and variety of contemporary Inuit art practices.
