ARTIST STATEMENT
In a world of information overload, I keep things simple. Working with acrylic paint is calming and uncomplicated regardless of how apply other mediums. Whether it be adding pouring medium, crackle paste or Isopropyl alcohol, the mixture creates a sense of wonder, fluidity and ease. The mediums can create their own surfaces or worlds taking you on a journey you did not pack for. I seek inspiration in pairing unusual colors, items or subjects together –things out of the norm. I love when a mistake turns into something unexpected and useful. The freedom to escape the conventions of realism is my motivation.
ARTIST BIO
Jocelyn Rushworth was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. By day, she works in an office but by night she can be found in her studio. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Jocelyn primarily works with acrylic paints but also incorporates mediums such as crackle or stucco pastes for texture as well as pouring medium and Isopropyl alcohol for her more fluid pieces. Jocelyn and a colleague taught a mixed media class at Cre8ery through Etsy in 2015. She has shown her work at Artsjunktion and Cre8ery and is also part of the South Osborne Arts Group where artist’s home studios are open to the public twice a year.
