SUMMER EXHIBITION: Abstract Views
This July and August Winchester Galleries will present a broad-ranging examination of Canadian and other abstract paintings ranging from the mid-century and 1960s to recent works by mid-career regional artists.
Mid-century works by Harold Town, Jean McEwen and Rita Letendre are included among the selection from Town’s “Snap” series and Letendre’s Hard Edge style of the 1960s. Jean McEwen is also represented with three watercolours from both the 1960s and 1970s.
From there Winchester Galleries takes on work by regional Canadians and the American Anne Walsh with her minimalist precision-oriented panels. Vicky Christou from Vancouver is represented with work from her “Shield” series in acrylic and Mitchel Smith with his expressive vertilinear canvases.
We wish to invite you to come in to share our “Abstract Views” on these matters on Oak Bay Avenue this summer. An invitation has been extended to contemplate this selection of non-representational work that hopefully will challenge your view of historical and recent Canadian abstract painting.
