Display Case is a new sculptural installation located in the Rotary Courtyard at the Kelowna Art Gallery. The installation features a large greenhouse containing armatures that can only be viewed through the greenhouse’s glass walls. The ad-hoc structure within the greenhouse creates a series of shelves, hooks, nooks, and other locations where objects can be placed. These various objects can be stashed or stored, out on display or tucked away for safekeeping.
Adad’s installation acts as a large display case of unknown origin and questionable design, where objects will be switched out during the run of the show so that visitors will see a different set of objects on display depending on when they visit. This project continues the artist’s interest in working on sculptural projects that are ephemeral in nature – such as his Saskatoon Guernica (2021) commissioned by the Remai Modern – and created with the help of community members who supplied the materials and eventually repopulate the sculpture with new objects for display.
