ADAGIO
...from music: calm movement.
...from a ballet: lyricism in a pas-de-deux.
It's well-controlled. It's slow. It's sequential.
It's a display of skill in a challenging technical framework.
It describes the quiet pace of Bobbi Dunlop’s paintings, how they evolve, and the process of creating/building an abstract visual idea on canvas, sculpting it with brushmarks; being in the moment with my brush and medium; while remaining open to greater manifestations.
Each beautiful chapter of my artist life has brought painterly richness in abundance. Ultimately, painting is about life and its unique observation. It’s about “the pursuit of knowledge”… it’s about “beauty”. When anyone looks for beauty, they will see it. Each time I begin a new painting, I look for beauty.
“Processes” have always fascinated me … how they intrinsically connect my work. As I have matured as an artist, this idea has become increasingly more important: the quality of the surfaces I choose to paint on, often hand-made; the lovely marks my brushes make; the luscious quality of the paint as I sculpt with my brush.
All of these are processes that connect me more deeply to my work and bring joy to my daily practice of painting.
