Our First Friday Red Deer is September 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Refreshments served. Some of the artists will be in attendance.
The Alberta Community Art Clubs Association's Spirit Show follows the province-wide Zone shows each year. The Alberta Spirit Show is made up of the best of the works from the three zone shows (north, central and south) and a final jurying at the Alberta Wide Exhibition. Truly, the best of the best is an understatement!
Selected artworks from the awards and achievements from each zone show are sent to the Alberta Wide show at A.J. Ottewell Centre, 590 Broadmoor Blvd, in Sherwood Park, where they are re-juried by professional artists. The winners of the zone shows and the AB Wide show become the 'best of the best' for our Kiwanis Gallery exhibit.
The exhibit features around 30 works including paintings, drawings, mixed media, sculpture and digital works from the province-wide competition of community artists.
Youth, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Masters, Signature, Sculpture and Digital are the eight categories into which artists enter their artwork.
The Alberta Community Art Clubs Association is a province-wide organization that supports artists in all stages of their development. ACACA was founded in 1968 under the guidance of Professor Wolfarthwho taught at the University of Alberta Extension Department . ACACA believe they fill a unique niche promoting all artists in all of Alberta. They are a grassroots charitable non-profit organization that promotes the understanding and the practices of the visual arts in Alberta. It's the only one of its kind in Canada.
Since 1968, it has organized exhibitions and juried shows and organized educational workshops for two-dimensional visual art pieces at the provincial level and at three regional levels. ACACA members span the entire province. In total, it serves over 500 artists through its 23 member clubs yearly. Communities with ACACA members include: Barrhead , Bonnyville, Brooks, Esther, Fort MacLeod, Grande Cache, Hinton, Lacombe, Lethbridge, Ponoka, Redwater, Sherwood Park, Vegreville, Whitecourt, Westlock, Wetaskiwin and, of course, Red Deer.
