Alicja Swiatlon, "Calgary Sky Painting-September," 2020
acrylic on canvas, 481' x 60''
Alicja Swiatlon's exhibition Addicted to Colour was created between 2018-2021 while the artist was painting in her studio in Calgary.
Featured paintings are inspired by Canadian nature and especially the amazing Calgary sky and light.
The Calgary Sky painting series includes many art pieces in various sizes however the main focus is on large scale paintings all 48/60’’ with each painting representing each month of the year. They are truly based on everyday sky observations which are then transformed into studies of colour. In this exhibition is just a small selection of these paintings as the space is limited.
All paintings are hand-painted using brushes and many layers of acrylic paint which the artist spends hours blending until the required softness appears.
It is a meditative process mixing colours and painting layer by layer which can take a few months.
