Amber Lomax: "Hit and Sunk"
“F. 5. “ He said, staring at his partner over the battleship boards.
“Hit and sunk.” Said the other, now grimacing, detective. The submarine was destroyed.
Sinking to the depths, a soon to be lost, scrambling crew member screams into his radio “Mayday. Position foxtrot.5.4.3. We’re hit. Descending rapidly. Come in. Come in. Please hear us.”
In a series of otherworldly paintings, Amber Lomax explores our connection to our subconscious side and the internal struggle between who we are and who we think we are.
"When your head says one thing and your whole life says another, your head always loses.” - Frank McCloud (Humphrey Bogart) in Key Largo (1948)
Artist's Bio
Lomax’s work is inspired by imagery from her dream life. She studied sculpture and has continued her art education, taking classes and workshops with artists from the local community. She works full time as an artist from her home and studio in Sooke.
Lomax is a member of Thrive Mastermind, a group of Island based artists that meet on a monthly basis to support each other in their art practice. Her work was part of the juried show, “Boxed Sanctuary” at the Robert Bateman Centre. She has recently been selected by the City of the Victoria to participate in a project that brings emerging artists and public art together. An image of her painting ‘The Call’ was displayed at a downtown bus shelter for four months late in 2018.
