North Van Arts is thrilled to host the 18th annual Anonymous Art Show, showcasing original artwork from emerging and established artists. 365 local artists have created 740 original artworks for our annual festive fundraiser.
CityScape Community ArtSpace will be transformed into a kaleidoscopic world of wonderment comprised of hundreds of small 8” x 8” canvases, come and find the one that speaks to you, and support your local art community with every artwork you buy. The artists remain anonymous until their work sells for $100 each, with the artist and North Van Arts each sharing 50% of the sale. Once a painting is purchased, it is removed from the wall and replaced with a sold tag, revealing the artist’s name.
"The past 18 months, the world has experienced many challenges and changes. North Van Arts wants to help support our community by providing opportunity for celebration of everyday creativity and community connections. The Anonymous Art Show is fun and highlights over 700 stories from this community, all on a small canvas. Art can uplift, inspire, offer hope, providing opportunities to reflect, grieve, and move forward." - Nancy Cottingham Powell, Executive Director, North Van Arts
Last year the Anonymous Art Show moved online; the move was a resounding success and gave many more people access to viewing and buying artwork. This year the exhibition will be installed at CityScape Community ArtSpace, with in-person preview and exhibition viewing with purchasing remaining exclusively online.
Artist Stories
"When I paint I forget time and place... I feel calm and relaxed. Art is the one thing that continues to help keep me feeling grounded, positive and happy," participating artist Shakun Jhangian.
"I have been a participant in the Anonymous Art Show every single year, except one, from the time it came into being. That one I missed was only because I was away in India for my niece’s wedding. CityScape is close to my heart."
"Throughout the last two years, both the creation and appreciation of art have done wonders for me...I believe it's crucial to remember there is more to life than the everyday grind or the fear-mongering news cycle. Then, we can choose to refocus on enduring values such as beauty, family, and love. The existence and patronage of art," says first time participant, Rachel Davidson.
