Works from the estate of visionary philanthropist Dr. Joan Snyder are among more than 370 lots offered for sale at the LEVIS Fine Art Auction open now for bidding at www.levisonlineauctions.com.
The auction includes 73 works from the late Dr. Snyder’s estate, with proceeds helping to fulfill her wishes to support the University of Calgary. Among these works are pieces by Frederick Banting, A.Y. Jackson, Cornelius Krieghoff, William Kurelek, Arthur Lismer, Walter Phillips and Frederick Verner. Highlights include:

"Joan was one of our most dedicated champions, and her support continues to make an impact even in her passing," says Andrea Morris, Chief Development Officer at the University of Calgary. "Her legacy gift to UCalgary will advance world leading research in the Snyder Institute for Chronic Diseases and the Faculty of Kinesiology, with a special focus on women’s health and wellness. We’re pleased to partner with LEVIS to facilitate the sale of these works. The proceeds will help to fulfill Joan’s wishes through the causes that were so important to her."
In addition to the pieces from Dr. Snyder’s estate, the auction features works from other estates as well as corporate and private collections across the country. Among these is a rare, early canvas titled The Homeseekers, a Prairie Camp, by J.E.H. MacDonald, painted in 1912. This piece has a pre-sale estimate of $40,000 to $60,000. Also included is a large oil on wood board by contemporary Calgary artist Ron Moppett, titled Butterflies, with an estimate of $7,000 to $9,000. Works by Maxwell Bates, Joane Cardinal-Schubert, Chris Cran, Nicholas de Grandmaison, Alex Janvier, Franz Johnston, Daphne Odjig, Andy Warhol and many more are also available.
